We have run into a situation and would appreciate some feedback from the group.
We have a lower level subassembly (lets all it C) that we want as a reporting level. It has a class and a config profile. There are two Procedures on the profile that find characteristics from the Root node and assign them to characteristics in the class of the subasembly (Self).
The subassembly noted above (C) sits in the BOM of another configurable material (lets call this one B), however, this material will always be a phantom item and, while it is flagged as configurable, it has no Class or Config Profile defined. It is a config item since there are components in the bom that need to be selected based on Selection conditions, but the Selection conditions are all written to look at the Root node for the characteristic values.
Item B is a component of a Orderable Configurable material (item A), with a class and config profile. The settings on the config profile of item A is Plnd/Prod. Order with Multi Level BOM Explosion.
Our problem is that during configuration, characteristic values are not getting set in the class of the lower level assembly C. When I look at the configuration trace, the procedures on the config profile of item C are not getting executed, even though the procedures tied to the components under item C are firing. Within the confguration session (CU50) when i select subassembly C, and click on the Characteristics button to try and see the values assigned to the class of item C, i get an error message:
You cannot assign values to item ''
Message no. CX051
Diagnosis
You have selected a BOM item for which characteristic value assignment is not supported. The item is not a configurable object.
Procedure
Check whether you selected the right object.
However, that item is a configurable object!!!
Are there known issues with trying to pull characteristic values from a root node down to a lower level configurable subassembly when a configurable material between the two does not have a class or config profile?
Thanks,
